A wedding anniversary in Marrakech can be celebrated three ways: a weekend for two with a private dinner, a vow renewal in a garden or a riad, or a real party with family and friends flown in from home. Using the price ranges on our celebrations page, the weekend for two comes to about €505 to €1,620 excluding flights, and a celebration dinner for 30 guests, with flowers and a musician, to about €2,000 to €4,100, cake quoted separately, before accommodation and venue hire. Here is how to choose the format, a weekend programme, the venues that suit, the budget item by item and the pitfalls to avoid, a little over three hours’ flight from Paris.
Why Marrakech for a wedding anniversary?
Because it is far away without being complicated. A little over three hours from Paris, about three and a half from London, direct flights from most large European cities, no visa for French or British travellers staying under three months, and a time difference of one hour with Paris in winter and two in summer (the same as London in winter, one hour in summer). On the ground, everything a party needs is within reach: riads that can be taken over entirely, terraces above the medina, the Agafay desert under an hour away, musicians, pastry chefs, florists. And a climate that lets you lunch outdoors from October to May, which no city in northern Europe offers in January. For a couple who married here, it is also a chance to return to the setting of their wedding in Marrakech.
Which anniversary are you celebrating?
The milestones people like to celebrate away from home are the round ones:
| Years married | Traditional name | Format that suits |
|---|---|---|
| 1 year | Paper (cotton in France) | Weekend for two |
| 5 years | Wood | Weekend for two, sometimes with the children |
| 10 years | Tin | Party with close family or vow renewal |
| 20 years | China | Party with close family |
| 25 years | Silver | Vow renewal and party |
| 30 years | Pearl | Party with children and grandchildren |
| 40 years | Ruby (emerald in France) | Family reunion over several days |
| 50 years | Gold | Family reunion, often organised by the children |
The name of the anniversary sets the thread for the decoration and the cake: a silver table for 25 years, pearls for 30, gold for 50. Marrakech’s craftspeople do it well, provided they are given time.
Three formats, from simplest to fullest
The weekend for two
Two nights in a riad, a hammam for two, a private dinner on a terrace or in the desert, with a cake and a flower-dressed table. It is the format of our guide to a romantic celebration in Marrakech, which details the budget for two: about €345 to €800 for the private dinner, €505 to €1,620 for the full weekend excluding flights.
The vow renewal
A symbolic ceremony, with no legal value, in a garden, a riad or facing the desert, followed by dinner. It suits silver anniversaries and round numbers, with or without guests. Our guide to a vow renewal in Marrakech covers venues, running order and formalities: no official document is required, though a copy of the marriage certificate is advised.
The party with family and friends
This is the format that takes the most organising and leaves the strongest memory: twenty to forty guests, two or three days on site, a celebration dinner on Saturday night in a private venue. The rest of this article is about it.
A weekend programme for 30 guests
| When | Programme |
|---|---|
| Friday, morning | Staggered arrivals, airport transfers |
| Friday, afternoon | Check-in, welcome tea |
| Friday, evening | Simple dinner at the riad or in a medina restaurant |
| Saturday, morning | Free time: medina walk, hammam, pool |
| Saturday, afternoon | Vow renewal in the late afternoon, if planned |
| Saturday, evening | Celebration dinner: cake, speeches, music |
| Sunday, morning | Late brunch all together |
| Sunday, afternoon | Departures, transfers |
Two rules make this programme realistic. One place to stay, or two within ten minutes’ walk of each other, so nobody gets lost. And one evening organised from start to finish, Saturday: Friday stays simple and Sunday ends early, as many guests leave on the afternoon flight.
Where to celebrate in Marrakech
- A private riad in the medina. Guests sleep on site, dinner is laid in the patio or on the roof. Count €2,000 to €15,000 a day to take over a riad, depending on size and standard; a riad rarely sleeps more than about twenty and seats twenty to fifty, which often means a second riad nearby to house everyone.
- A villa with a pool in the Palmeraie or on the Ourika road. The family format par excellence: children in the pool, grandparents in the shade, dinner by the water. See our guide to a celebration in a private villa in Marrakech.
- A restaurant rooftop, for a dinner without accommodation on site. Our page on private rooftop dining in Marrakech explains what to have confirmed in writing.
- The Agafay desert, under an hour’s drive, for a dinner under a Berber tent at sunset. More striking, colder in the evening in winter, and a return transfer to organise for every guest.
- A hotel, if guests are many or elderly: rooms in one place, a lift, a function room, less charm and less logistics.
How much does a wedding anniversary with 30 guests cost?
The calculation below uses only the price ranges on our celebrations in Marrakech page. It covers the Saturday evening, excluding accommodation and venue.
| Item | Range | For 30 guests |
|---|---|---|
| Celebration dinner | €60 to €120 per person | €1,800 to €3,600 |
| Custom cake | from €25 (simple cake) | extra: from €25 (simple cake; a cake for 30 guests on quote) |
| Floral decoration | €50 to €200 | €50 to €200 for the main table, more for several tables |
| Solo gnaoua musician | €150 to €300 for the evening | €150 to €300 |
| Evening, with one flower-dressed table and a musician (cake extra) | about €2,000 to €4,100 | |
| DJ option instead of the musician | €500 to €1,200 | + €350 to €900 |
| Riad hire, if you take one over | €2,000 to €15,000 a day | depends on the venue |
| Accommodation | €50 to €350 a night | depending on the accommodation, times the number of nights |
| Hammam with massage, optional for guests | €30 to €60 per person | €900 to €1,800 for everyone |
The evening in detail, excluding the cake: 1,800 + 50 + 150 = €2,000 and 3,600 + 200 + 300 = €4,100; the cake is extra (from €25 for a simple cake, a cake for 30 guests on quote). What moves the total threefold is the venue and the accommodation, not the dinner. A family renting two simple riads and dining in the patio will pay far less than a group staying in a palace with a dinner in Agafay. Flights, alcoholic drinks and agency fees stay outside these figures. For a birthday with the same guests, the items are the same: see our guide to a birthday in Marrakech.
Bringing 30 guests: what to settle early
- The date, announced at least three months ahead, four to six months for high season, March to May and September to November, when riads book up early.
- Passports. Identity cards are not accepted for entry into Morocco: every guest needs a passport valid for the whole stay. French and British citizens, like most other EU nationals, need no visa for a tourist stay of up to 90 days; other nationalities should check with the Moroccan consulate.
- Flights. Each guest books their own; give an arrival time window to group transfers. A taxi from the airport costs 70 to 150 dirhams; for 30 people, a chartered minibus costs less and avoids haggling.
- Accommodation. Block rooms in the guests’ names with a deadline, then release. Between €50 and €350 a night, offer two price levels so everyone finds theirs.
- Diets and ages. A Moroccan dinner adapts easily to vegetarian or alcohol-free versions; tell the caterer about allergies a week ahead. Elderly guests or children change the choice of venue: fewer stairs, a supervised pool.
- One single contact on site, who handles suppliers, delays and surprises on the night, so the couple has nothing to do.
When to celebrate in Marrakech
Spring, March to May, and autumn, September to November, to dine outdoors neither too hot nor cold. They are also the high-season months: book early. In summer the average high exceeds 37 °C in July and August: dinner is served after sunset, and the pool replaces sightseeing. In winter the days stay mild, around 20 °C, but evenings drop towards 7 °C in December: braziers and blankets for a terrace dinner. Ramadan moves about eleven days earlier each year; in 2027 it is expected around 8 February, for about a month, with changed restaurant hours and alcohol service.
Pitfalls to avoid
- The shared terrace. A “private” dinner can take place next to ten other tables: have it confirmed in writing that the space is reserved.
- Alcohol. Not every riad or restaurant is licensed to serve it. If a glass of champagne is part of the party, check before booking.
- Late music. In town, amplified music outdoors is generally cut between midnight and 1 am. For a party that runs late, plan an indoor lounge or a venue outside the city.
- The venue too far away. A desert dinner with guests aged 7 to 80 means an hour’s transfer each way and a late return: keep that format for a group that has chosen it.
- The time difference. Morocco has been on GMT all year since 20 September 2026: one hour behind Paris in winter, two in summer; same as London in winter, one hour behind in summer. Print local time on the invitations.
- Large groups. Above 100 people, a gathering is declared to the prefecture 30 days ahead; below that, 15 days. The venue or your planner handles it.
What Saphyyr Events does
We find the riad, villa or terrace available on your date, we book the caterer, pastry chef, florist and musician, we organise the guests’ transfers and we are there on the night. We work in English and French, between Paris and Marrakech, and we reply within 48 working hours with a first scenario and a quote.
Frequently asked questions
How far ahead should a wedding anniversary in Marrakech be organised?
Three months for a party of 20 to 40 guests in low season, four to six months in high season, March to May and September to November. A dinner for two can be arranged in six to eight weeks.
Do guests need a passport?
Yes. Identity cards alone are no longer accepted for entry into Morocco: a passport valid for the whole stay is required. French and British citizens, like most other EU nationals, need no visa for a tourist stay of up to 90 days; check with the Moroccan consulate for other nationalities.
Can we renew our vows on the same evening as the party?
Yes, it is a common running order: the ceremony in the late afternoon, in the garden or on the roof, then the celebration dinner in the same place. The ceremony has no legal value and requires no official document; a copy of the marriage certificate is advised.
What budget for an anniversary dinner with 30 guests?
About €2,000 to €4,100 for the dinner, a flower-dressed table and a musician, using the ranges on our celebrations page; the cake is extra (from €25, a cake for 30 guests on quote). Venue and accommodation come on top: €2,000 to €15,000 a day to take over a riad, €50 to €350 a night depending on the accommodation.
Can we bring children and grandparents?
Yes, notably for silver or golden anniversaries. Then choose a villa or a hotel rather than a riad with stairs, and a dinner in town rather than in the desert.
