For a group of friends in Marrakech, whether for a birthday or a hen party, taking over a hammam and spa means booking a slot for your group alone, in the spa of a riad, a hotel or an independent spa. Treatments run in small batches, at the pace set by the number of treatment rooms. Our birthday page puts a hammam with massage at €30 to €60 per person: €240 to €480 for 8 people, €450 to €900 for 15. Add lunch or brunch at a good restaurant and you are looking at about €50 to €100 per person in total. The question that shapes the day is not the price but the number of treatment rooms, because it sets how long the booking lasts. Here is how to organise it, how to work out the rotations, and what to ask the spa.
Group hammam: what “exclusive use” actually means
An exclusive spa booking does not mean everyone is treated at once in an empty spa. It means a time slot reserved for the group, during which no other clients come in. Depending on the venue, the hammam itself, the hot room where the black soap and scrub happen, may take several people at a time; massages take place in treatment rooms, single or double. While some are being treated, the others wait in the relaxation lounge, by the riad pool or over mint tea.
Three kinds of venue lend themselves to a group booking:
- a riad spa: intimate, often smaller, suited to small groups; if you have already taken the whole riad, the hammam comes with it;
- a hotel spa: often more treatment rooms, so less waiting, but full exclusive use is not always possible; you then book a slot and a lounge for the group;
- an independent spa in town: a good compromise for a group not staying in the same place.
If the day is mainly about the bride, with a ritual before the wedding, our guide to the pre-wedding hammam (in French) covers it separately. Here we are talking about a day out with friends.
How long does the booking last? Working out the rotations
This is the point people often forget to work out before the day. The number of rounds is: number of guests ÷ number of people treated at the same time, rounded up. Then multiply by the length of one treatment, which the spa will give you.
| Group | Spa with 2 single rooms | Spa with 4 single rooms | Spa with 4 rooms, 2 of them doubles (6 places) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8 people | 4 rounds | 2 rounds | 2 rounds |
| 15 people | 8 rounds | 4 rounds | 3 rounds |
The working. 8 ÷ 2 = 4; 8 ÷ 4 = 2; 8 ÷ 6 ≈ 1.3, rounded up to 2. 15 ÷ 2 = 7.5, rounded up to 8; 15 ÷ 4 = 3.75, rounded up to 4; 15 ÷ 6 = 2.5, rounded up to 3.
The lesson is immediate. With 15 people in a small two-room spa, you need eight rounds: if each treatment takes an hour, the booking fills the whole day and the last person comes out eight hours after the first one went in. In a four-room spa, four rounds are enough. For a large group, two options: pick a bigger spa, or split the group into a morning and an afternoon session with lunch in between.
A half-day that works
A running order for 8 people in a four-room spa, with treatments of about an hour (to be confirmed by the spa).
- 10.30am: welcome, mint tea, changing rooms, treatment briefing.
- 11am: first four into the hammam then treatment rooms; the other four in the lounge or by the pool.
- Noon: swap.
- 1.15pm: lunch or brunch at the riad, without heading back into town.
- Afternoon: free time, or getting ready for the evening.
After a big night, this is the day everyone looks forward to: our birthday page notes that a hammam with massage is the most requested activity the day after a party. So schedule it for late morning, never 8am.
What does a private hammam cost for 8 or 15 people?
The figures come from our birthday and private party page: hammam with massage €30 to €60 per person, a good restaurant in town €20 to €40 per person, flowers €50 to €200, bespoke cake €25 to €60.
- 8 people: hammam and massage €240 to €480, lunch €160 to €320, so €400 to €800 in total, or €50 to €100 per person.
- 15 people: hammam and massage €450 to €900, lunch €300 to €600, so €750 to €1,500 in total, or €50 to €100 per person.
- For a birthday: add a cake (€25 to €60) and a decorated table (€50 to €200). For 8, that makes €475 to €1,060 (about €60 to €135 per person); for 15, €825 to €1,760 (about €55 to €120 per person).
The working. 8 × 30 = 240 and 8 × 60 = 480; 8 × 20 = 160 and 8 × 40 = 320. 15 × 30 = 450 and 15 × 60 = 900; 15 × 20 = 300 and 15 × 40 = 600. With cake and flowers: 400 + 25 + 50 = 475 and 800 + 60 + 200 = 1,060; 750 + 25 + 50 = 825 and 1,500 + 60 + 200 = 1,760.
What the range does not tell you: the price of full exclusive use, when the spa closes to other clients for you. Some include it in the treatment price above a certain group size, others charge a supplement. Ask in writing, alongside the treatment quote. Longer or more elaborate treatments than the classic hammam and massage (wraps, facials) also fall outside the range.
Questions to ask the spa before booking
- How many treatment rooms, single or double, and how many people in the hammam at once?
- How long exactly is each treatment, and the scrub on its own?
- Is the spa closed to other clients during your slot, and at what price?
- Which treatments are included: black soap scrub, wrap, massage, and for how long?
- Are the therapists women, men, and can you choose? Worth asking for a mixed group, or for a guest who would prefer a female therapist.
- What does the spa provide: disposable underwear, robes, slippers, towels, or should guests bring swimwear?
- Can you bring a cake or decorations, and serve lunch on site?
- What are the cancellation and lateness terms? Twenty minutes late pushes back every round after it.
For a guest who is pregnant or on medication, the heat of the hammam and some massages may not be suitable: she should ask her doctor before travelling, and tell the spa when booking so it can suggest an appropriate treatment.
Fitting the hammam into the weekend
For a hen party, the hammam goes on Saturday morning or Sunday, around the big night. Our all-inclusive hen party in Marrakech already builds it into a three-day budget, and our hen party guide (in French) covers other activities. For a birthday weekend with friends, the hammam makes a good opening: arrive on Friday, spa late on Saturday morning, celebration dinner that night. Companies looking for a wellbeing day within a seminar need a different set-up: see our guide to a wellness corporate retreat in Marrakech.
What Saphyyr Events does
We shortlist spas and riads available on your date, with their number of treatment rooms, slots and the cost of exclusive use. We plan the rotations and lunch, then fit the half-day into the rest of the programme: transfers, celebration dinner, flowers, music. One point of contact in English or French, between Paris and Marrakech, and a team on site on the day.
Frequently asked questions
From what group size does a private spa booking make sense?
From 6 to 8 people, exclusive use is worth it: the group stays together and treatments run without waiting for other clients. Beyond 12 to 15, choose a spa with four or more treatment rooms, or split the day in two.
How much is a hammam with massage in Marrakech?
Our birthday page puts a hammam with massage at €30 to €60 per person. The price of full exclusive use of the spa, where there is one, is quoted separately.
Can we use the hammam in the riad where we are staying?
Yes, if the riad has its own hammam. It is the simplest option when the group has taken the whole riad: no transport, and lunch is on site.
How far ahead should we book?
For a spring or autumn date, in high season, book the spa when you book accommodation. Six to eight weeks is enough for a day out with no accommodation to arrange.
We find the spa, plan the rotations and coordinate the day on the ground: see our birthday and hen party planning in Marrakech, or ask for a free quote with your date and group size.
