The opening of a new venue in Marrakech, whether a hotel, restaurant, showroom, shop or new offices, is neither a product launch nor a private party: it is the first time the place receives guests, and it is both the setting and the subject of the evening. Guests are mostly local: partners, suppliers, clients, neighbours, press and sometimes representatives of the local authorities. The usual format is a late afternoon or evening of two to four hours, standing, with a tour of the premises, a short speech and a symbolic moment. For 150 guests hosted at the venue itself, with catering and a DJ, the line items in the model behind our budget calculator give roughly €9,600 to €15,300; for 250 guests with live musicians and shuttles, €19,000 to €30,500. Here is how to plan the evening, the guest list, the permits and the budget.

## Opening, launch or private party: what is different

A private party brings friends or family together in a riad or villa hired for the night; our guide to [planning a private party in Marrakech](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/private-party-planner-marrakech) covers those constraints. A product launch targets press and content creators around something new, in a venue chosen for its image. An opening has three features of its own:

- The venue is yours, and it is new. No hire fee, but premises that may have just come out of the builders’ hands, with capacity, toilets and power designed for day-to-day trading, not for a peak of 200 people.

- The guests are the venue’s everyday circle. They are the people who will keep it alive afterwards: neighbours, local partners, referrers, future customers.

- The date depends on the build. Fix the opening night only once the opening itself is certain, and keep a fallback date.

## Which format for which venue?

| Venue | Best-suited format | Highlight | Watch out for |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Hotel or guesthouse | Evening of 3 to 4 hours, tour of rooms and public areas | Guided tours in small groups | Rooms finished and presentable on the day |
| Restaurant or café | Standing buffet served by the venue’s own kitchen | Tasting of the menu | Capacity of dining room and terrace, a kitchen that is run in |
| Showroom or shop | Late afternoon open house, then an invitation-only evening | Collection presentation | Entry flow and security of displayed products |
| Offices or headquarters | Two-hour early evening, speeches and drinks | Tour of the spaces, words from the leadership | Mixing staff and partners, office hours |

A two-part format often works well: a late afternoon for business partners and officials, followed by a more festive evening for customers and friends. It avoids squeezing guests who expect different things into the same slot.

## A typical opening night

- 18:30: welcome, cloakroom if needed, welcome drink, with someone at the door checking the guest list.

- 19:00: guided tours in groups of ten to fifteen, led by the venue’s own team.

- 19:45: speeches, ten minutes in total, from the founder and perhaps a partner. Then the symbolic moment: ribbon cutting, unveiling a plaque, first service.

- 20:00 to 22:00: standing buffet and music.

- End of the evening: shuttles or booked taxis, and a parting gift if you plan one.

Have a photographer cover the evening from start to finish: the pictures feed the venue’s communication for months. For music, an acoustic trio suits the tour and drinks; a DJ is only needed if people will dance.

## Guests: who to invite and how

Build the list in circles: the partners and suppliers who made the opening possible, customers and referrers (agencies, concierges, neighbouring businesses), immediate neighbours, local press and content creators if the venue is open to the public, and public figures or local officials where appropriate. Invite officials in writing, early, with a precise programme; assign someone to greet them, and do not fix the time of the speeches before their attendance is confirmed.

Expect a gap between replies and arrivals, and size the catering on confirmations chased the week before. A bilingual invitation, French and Arabic or English and French depending on your clientele, widens the circle.

## Permits and practical points

- Prefecture: for more than 100 people, authorisation must be requested 30 days ahead; 15 days below that. For amplified music, check the procedure with the municipality or prefecture.

- Finishing time: in residential areas and the medina, amplified music usually stops between midnight and 1 am, so openings tend to end earlier.

- Alcohol: it depends on the venue’s licence or on a licensed supplier. Check before printing the invitations.

- Public space: a carpet on the pavement, an arch at the entrance or double-parked cars are a matter for the municipality; check if you plan to use the space in front of the venue.

- Capacity and safety: the guest count must not exceed what the premises can safely hold. Keep exits clear, light the outside and, for a large crowd, book a security team.

- Calendar: during Ramadan, expected around 8 February 2027 give or take a day, opening hours and alcohol service change; high season, March to May and September to November, makes suppliers harder to book.

## What does an opening in Marrakech cost?

The figures below use the line items in our [budget calculator](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/seminar-team-building-budget-calculator-marrakech) model: catering at the hotel evening rate (€55 to €85 per person), entertainment (DJ €500 to €1,200, live musicians €1,000 to €2,000), shuttles (€10 to €18 per person), plus a 10% contingency. At your own venue there is no hire fee. A standing buffet often costs less than a seated dinner, on the caterer’s quote.

| Scenario | Total budget | Per guest |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 80 guests at the venue, live musicians | €5,900 to €9,700 | €74 to €121 |
| 150 guests at the venue, DJ | €9,600 to €15,300 | €64 to €102 |
| 150 guests at the venue, live musicians, shuttles | €11,800 to €19,200 | €79 to €128 |
| 250 guests at the venue, live musicians, shuttles | €19,000 to €30,500 | €76 to €122 |
| 80 guests in a private riad (venue not ready), live musicians | €9,000 to €17,600 | €113 to €220 |

These amounts exclude alcohol, decoration, signage, the photographer, a PA for speeches, security, gifts and our fees. The last line shows the cost of a fallback: if the build is not finished, hiring a riad for the night mostly adds the hire fee, €2,000 to €6,000 in the model. ## An eight-week timeline

- Eight weeks out: date and fallback date, guest numbers, budget, format.

- Six weeks: guest list, caterer, music, photographer; permit request above 100 guests (30 days ahead at the latest).

- Four weeks: invitations sent, decoration and signage ordered.

- One week: guest reminders, final numbers, run-through with the venue team.

- On the day: set-up in the afternoon, sound check, briefing for the welcome team.
