For a company group in Marrakech, quad biking and buggy driving take place on two kinds of terrain: the Palmeraie, fifteen to twenty minutes from the centre by car, and the Agafay desert, less than an hour away. A quad is ridden with handlebars, by one or two people, and, according to operators’ terms, riders are generally accepted from 16 with no licence; a buggy is driven with a steering wheel, two people side by side, and several offers require drivers to be 18 to drive alone. For two hours of quad biking in Agafay with local shuttles for the day, our costing model gives roughly €1,700 to €2,400 for 20 participants, €3,300 to €4,800 for 40 and €6,600 to €9,500 for 80, contingency included. Buggies and Palmeraie circuits are priced on request.

## Quad or buggy: what is the difference for a group?

Both machines use the same tracks, but they call for different driving and different conditions. The table sets out the conditions listed on Marrakech operators’ booking pages on 14 October 2026: they vary from one offer to another and should be checked with the provider you choose.

| Criterion | Quad | Buggy |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Seats | 2 at most, the passenger sitting behind the rider | 2, side by side |
| Driving | Handlebars, like a motorbike; the body leans into the bends | Steering wheel and pedals, like a small car |
| Minimum age to drive | 16 on the offers we checked | 18 to drive alone on two offers; 16 on others, with an accompanying adult or parental consent for a minor |
| Driving licence | Not required on the offers we checked | Generally not required; one listing requires it in its terms, so have it confirmed |
| Kit provided | Helmet and goggles | Helmet, goggles or gloves depending on the offer |
| Effort | Holding the handlebars on a stony track works the arms and back | Less physical, but jolts through the back |

For a group that has never ridden, a buggy is more reassuring: you drive seated, with a steering wheel, and can talk to your passenger. A quad gives more of a thrill and more freedom of movement, but it is more tiring over two hours. Operators’ pages advise against both machines for anyone with back problems or past back surgery; one offer adds pregnant women and people with heart conditions.

If some of the group are under 18 or will not have their driving licence with them, quads are simpler to arrange. Have the age and documents required for each machine confirmed in writing.

## Palmeraie or Agafay: which terrain?

The Palmeraie, the palm grove, stretches to the north of the city. By our route calculation, it takes about fifteen to twenty minutes by car, without traffic, to reach its tracks from Jemaa el-Fna square. One operator describes its circuit as a succession of “rocky paths, dunes and dusty tracks”; other offers advertise a route facing the Atlas or a Moroccan tea along the way. It is the easiest terrain for a half day: the journey is short, so you can ride in the morning and be back for lunch, or fit the outing between two working sessions.

The Agafay desert is a stony desert on a plateau south of Marrakech, less than an hour’s drive away. The landscape is more open, with views of the Atlas on a clear day, and it is where the camps are, so the ride can lead into dinner. The journey weighs more heavily: allow an hour and a half to two hours there and back for a group travelling by coach. If you want to combine quad biking with an evening at a camp, our article on [team building in the Agafay desert](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/team-building-agafay-desert) gives the departure time month by month, set by sunset, and the cost of the evening: we do not repeat it here.

On both terrains, dust is the shared constraint: it settles on clothes, goggles and hair, and it gets worse as more machines follow one another. It calls for a decent gap between vehicles and a scarf or cheche to cover nose and mouth.

## Guided ride or timed challenge?

The guided ride is the standard format: one guide leads, another brings up the rear, and the machines ride in single file, with stops to regroup and swap drivers. It suits most groups, because everyone rides at a shared pace and nobody is put in competition.

The challenge turns the outing into a team game: a regularity stage, a skills course between cones, navigation with a road book, a relay with a compulsory change of driver. It gets teams working together rather than rewarding the fastest rider. Two rules apply: the stages take place in a closed, marked area, not on open tracks, and the scoring is based on precision or organisation, never on outright speed. These formats are not in our costing model: they are priced on request, and not every provider has suitable ground.

## What does a morning quad ride without an evening look like?

For a seminar, the easiest format to fit in is a morning in the Palmeraie, followed by lunch and an afternoon of work or free time. The times below are an example.

- 08:30: leave the hotel by shuttle.

- 09:00: arrive at the provider, helmets and goggles handed out, briefing.

- 09:30 to 11:30: two hours of riding, with a break halfway.

- 12:00: back at the hotel, shower, lunch.

For Agafay, add about an hour at each end. From May to October, the average maximum in Marrakech is above 28°C, the benchmark that INRS, the French occupational safety body, uses for physical activity: the morning is then the right slot, and in July and August you leave earlier still. Our article on [summer team building in Marrakech](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/team-building-marrakech-summer-heat) sets out timings according to the heat. From November to February, mornings are cool: bring a warm layer under the jacket.

## What should people wear, and what does the briefing cover?

The offers we checked provide a helmet and protective goggles; some add gloves. Ask participants to come in long trousers and closed shoes, in clothes they do not mind getting dusty, with a scarf. Add sun cream and water, even in winter.

Ask the provider how long its briefing lasts. It should cover the machine’s controls, the distance to keep from the vehicle in front, the guide’s signals, what to do after a fall or breakdown, and the ban on using a phone while driving, which one offer states explicitly. A test lap on flat ground before setting off lets the guide spot anyone who needs closer support.

## Safety and insurance: the questions to ask

France Diplomatie, the French foreign ministry’s travel advice service, points out that risky sports must take into account local emergency response capacity that is often limited, particularly in remote areas, and names quad biking explicitly. It also advises against travelling at night: plan for the machines to be back before dark. Its travel advice for Morocco (in French) is worth rereading before you leave.

Insurance needs careful checking. On one booking platform, two quad and buggy listings in Marrakech state that the activity is not covered by the organiser’s insurance, and a third excludes individual insurance. For a company group, ask the provider for an up-to-date certificate of liability insurance, and check with your insurer and your HR department what your own policies cover. Our article on [safety, insurance and work accidents on team building abroad](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/team-building-abroad-safety-insurance-morocco) covers work accidents and assistance.

Four more questions complete the picture: how many guides go with each convoy, does a support vehicle follow the group, what first-aid kit is on board, and when were the machines last serviced?

## How many machines, waves and guides for 20, 40 or 80 people?

The calculation rests on one simple rule: two people at most per machine, quad or buggy. The number of machines therefore depends on how many people are willing to ride as passengers for part of the time.

| Participants | Machines (in pairs / one each) | 2-hour quad ride in Agafay plus shuttles (model) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 20 | 10 / 20 | €1,700 to €2,400 |
| 40 | 20 / 40 | €3,300 to €4,800 |
| 80 | 40 / 80 | €6,600 to €9,500 |

With 20 participants, a single departure is usually feasible, but have it confirmed. With 40, ask how many machines are available on the day: riding in pairs, a single departure remains possible. With 80, the group almost always leaves in several waves. With two waves of two hours, the outing takes the whole morning and part of the afternoon, so plan what the waiting wave does, at the start point or at the hotel. Another option is to split the group between two activities, quads for some and something else for the others, then swap the next day.

For supervision, do not settle for a total number of guides: ask how many machines each guide is responsible for, and who brings up the rear. The longer the convoy, the more dust and the wider the gaps: several modest convoys are better.

## How much does a quad or buggy outing cost?

Our costing model, the one behind the [seminar and team building budget calculator](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/seminar-team-building-budget-calculator-marrakech), counts two hours of quad biking in Agafay at €65 to €90 per participant before contingency. It has no dedicated line for transport to the quad start point: we have approximated it with local shuttles for the day. With those shuttles and 10% contingency, the cost comes to €80 to €120 per participant, whether you are 20 or 80: the price is per machine and per person, so it does not fall as the group grows.

Buggies, Palmeraie circuits and challenge formats are not in the model: they are priced on request. The rest of the day is costed as usual: lunch, a working day, accommodation or an evening. These figures exclude flights, accommodation, alcohol, tourist tax and organisation fees. Before comparing two offers, ask in writing about transport, kit, the number of guides, insurance and the cancellation policy for rain, wind or extreme heat.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do you need a driving licence for a buggy in Marrakech?

It depends on the offer. Going by the operators’ terms we checked, a licence is generally not required for a buggy, but one listing does require it; two offers set the minimum age at 18 to drive alone. For quads, the offers we checked require no licence and accept riders from 16. Have these conditions confirmed by the chosen provider.

### Quad or buggy for a group that has never ridden?

Usually the buggy: it drives like a car, seated, and is less tiring. Quads remain accessible to beginners after the briefing and a test lap, but they ask more of the arms and back.

### How much does quad biking cost for 40 people?

On our model, about €3,300 to €4,800 for two hours in Agafay with shuttles for the day, contingency included, or €80 to €120 per participant.

### Palmeraie or Agafay for a half day?

The Palmeraie, if the outing has to fit into a morning: the journey is short. Agafay, if you want a more open landscape or to carry on with an evening at a camp.

We choose the machine, terrain and provider for your group, and fit the outing into your programme: find out more about our [team building organisation in Marrakech](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/team-building-in-marrakech), try different scenarios with the [seminar and team building budget calculator](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/seminar-team-building-budget-calculator-marrakech), or ask for a [free quote](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/free-quote) with your dates and number of participants.
