To celebrate a birthday in a private dining room or on a rooftop in Marrakech, start with the venues that say in writing that they host groups. We checked the official websites of a dozen addresses, and ten state that they can be booked in whole or in part, including Kabana, Le Salama and El Fenn for medina rooftops, the Nobu Hotel, Palais Jad Mahal and Comptoir Darna in Hivernage, Le Grand Café de la Poste in Guéliz, and La Mamounia for a palace setting. Dinner costs €20 to €40 per person at a good restaurant in town and €60 to €120 for a gourmet dinner, so €400 to €2,400 for 20 guests before the cake, flowers and music. Exclusive hire of a whole venue is negotiated case by case. Below is what each website says, followed by the questions to ask before you pay a deposit.

## Restaurant, rooftop or palace: which suits your birthday?

Our guide to the [7 types of birthday venue in Marrakech](https://saphyyrevents.fr/ou-feter-son-anniversaire-a-marrakech-7-types-de-lieux) (in French) sums up the appeal of a private restaurant booking: no accommodation to manage, no shuttles, and an address every taxi driver knows. It is the simplest option when your guests are staying in different places. The trade-off is that the restaurant sets the capacity, often the menu, and always the closing time.

There are three ways to book. A group table in a room shared with other diners is the most flexible. Hiring one area, such as a terrace, a lounge or part of the rooftop, gives you a space of your own without taking the whole venue. Exclusive hire closes the venue to the public for the evening: it costs the most and needs the longest lead time.

## Which venues host birthdays and private hire?

The table below only includes what each venue says on its official website, checked on 14 October 2026. It is not a list of partners: we kept only the venues that mention groups or private hire themselves. Where a website gives no capacity, neither do we.

| Venue | Area, type | What the official website says |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Kabana | Medina, rooftop overlooking the Koutoubia | Hire of part of the rooftop or the whole restaurant; birthdays mentioned; groups of 10 or more book directly; open 11am to 2am |
| Le Salama | Medina, near Jemaa el-Fna; three-floor restaurant with rooftop | The entire rooftop can be reserved; has hosted birthdays; belly-dance show every evening at 9pm |
| El Fenn | Medina, rooftop of a riad hotel | Whole riad available for exclusive hire; rooftop open noon to 11pm, but for groups of 10 or more, last entry 8pm, two weeks’ notice, minimum spend and deposit |
| Le Foundouk | Medina, restaurant with rooftop | Group dining page and group menu; prices and private hire on request; open 7pm to midnight, closed Wednesdays |
| Dar Yacout | Medina, riad restaurant with terrace | Nothing written about groups: ask; Gnaoua musicians on the terrace at aperitif time; dinner daily except Mondays |
| Le Jardin | Medina, garden-courtyard restaurant | Hire of spaces and private parties through the sales team; open 11am to 11pm |
| Palais Soleiman | Medina, reception palace | Hosts private receptions and offers exclusive hire; large courtyard, lounges, terraces |
| Nobu Hotel Marrakech | Hivernage, hotel rooftop | Rooftop Garden for up to 200 guests; birthdays mentioned |
| Palais Jad Mahal | Hivernage, palace dinner show | Full or partial hire of a room; birthdays and hen parties mentioned; open 7.30pm to 2am |
| Comptoir Darna | Hivernage, dinner show and club | Hire of all or part of the venue for birthdays; group menus from 12 people; deposit may be requested |
| Le Grand Café de la Poste | Guéliz, brasserie | Celebrations and birthdays mentioned; private hire of the Salon for dinner, with live music in the evening |
| La Mamounia | Medina (Bab Jdid), palace hotel | Birthdays and private parties mentioned; all or part of its spaces can be booked; the Œnothèque seats up to twelve |

### Medina rooftops

This is the setting most guests picture: a terrace above the rooftops, with the Koutoubia or the Atlas in the distance. Kabana and Le Salama both highlight rooftop hire, and Le Salama adds a show every night, which takes care of the entertainment. El Fenn is a special case: its rooftop has written rules for groups, with last entry at 8pm, a minimum spend and a deposit, but the whole property can also be hired, rooftop and courtyards included. For a group that wants the medina setting without exclusive hire, Le Foundouk offers group menus; everything else is on request.

### Hivernage: large groups and dinner shows

Hivernage is where you find the venues that take big groups and stay open late. Nobu is the only venue on the list to publish a rooftop capacity: up to 200 guests. Palais Jad Mahal and Comptoir Darna are dinner shows, with dancers, live musicians and a change of mood late in the evening, so you do not need to bring your own performers. Jad Mahal gives an average budget of around 500 to 800 MAD per person, excluding drinks, according to its website (French version), consulted on 14/10/2026.

### Guéliz and the palace hotel

In Guéliz, Le Grand Café de la Poste offers private hire of its Salon, with live music in the evening: a brasserie format, simpler than a dinner show. La Mamounia gives the example of a birthday with music under the tent of its restaurant Le Marocain, and its Œnothèque seats up to twelve for a very intimate dinner. ## What should you ask before booking?

No website answers everything. These questions show, before you pay a deposit, what really separates two venues.

- Exclusive hire or a reserved area? Get it in writing: which space you will have, and whether other diners can use it.

- Is there a minimum spend? El Fenn states one for groups; elsewhere, ask. It is often the minimum spend, more than the menu price, that sets the bill for a private booking.

- Is the menu fixed? Comptoir Darna offers group menus from 12 people; ask whether there is a choice and how dietary requirements are handled.

- Can you bring your own cake? Ask whether the restaurant allows it, whether it charges corkage or a cake-cutting fee, or whether it prefers to use its own pastry chef.

- When do you have to leave? Published closing times range from 11pm to 2am depending on the venue. Ask for the actual end time for your group, not the opening hours.

- Is alcohol served? Several menus list cocktails, but no website mentions a licence: check what will be served at your table, and at what price.

- Is it accessible? If older guests or guests with reduced mobility are coming, ask whether there is a lift to the roof or only stairs.

- What is the plan B? Rooftops get rain and wind. Ask where your group moves if the terrace becomes unusable.

## Is a rooftop a good idea in winter?

Yes, if you plan for it. Days stay mild in December and January, around 19 to 20°C on average in the afternoon, but nights drop to around 6 to 7°C. A 9pm dinner on a windy roof needs patio heaters, blankets or a covered area. In July and August it is the other way round: average highs top 37°C, and a rooftop only becomes comfortable after sunset.

The calendar matters too. March to May and September to November are the high season, when venues are booked earlier. During Ramadan, expected to begin around 8 February 2027, give or take a day, opening hours and alcohol service change: if your date falls then, check each venue individually. Note also that Morocco has stayed on GMT all year round since 20 September 2026, the same time as London in winter and one hour behind it in summer.

## How much does a private birthday dinner cost?

The figures below use the ranges published on our [birthday party in Marrakech](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/birthday-party-in-marrakech) page: €20 to €40 per person at a good restaurant in town, €60 to €120 for a gourmet dinner, then a bespoke cake at €25 to €60, flowers at €50 to €200 and a Gnaoua musician at €150 to €300.

| Option | 20 guests | 40 guests |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Good restaurant in town (€20 to €40 per person) | €400 to €800 | €800 to €1,600 |
| Gourmet dinner (€60 to €120 per person) | €1,200 to €2,400 | €2,400 to €4,800 |
| Cake, flowers, musician | €225 to €560 | €225 to €560 |
| Total, restaurant in town | €625 to €1,360 | €1,025 to €2,160 |
| Total, gourmet dinner | €1,425 to €2,960 | €2,625 to €5,360 |

The workings: 20 × €20 = €400 and 20 × €40 = €800; 20 × €60 = €1,200 and 20 × €120 = €2,400; for 40 guests, these amounts double. The cake, flowers and musician add €25 + €50 + €150 = €225 at the bottom of the range and €60 + €200 + €300 = €560 at the top, whatever the size of the group.

Three adjustments depending on the venue. At a dinner show, the entertainment is already on stage, so the musician line can go. If the restaurant does not accept outside cakes or charges to cut them, replace the cake line with its fee. And exclusive hire of a rooftop or a palace does not follow these ranges: it is quoted separately, often as a minimum spend, with drinks on top. For a full birthday weekend rather than a single dinner, our [40th or 50th birthday weekend guide](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/40th-or-50th-birthday-weekend-marrakech) works through the other costs.

## Do you need a permit for a private party?

For a private party, an authorisation request goes to the prefecture: 30 days ahead above 100 guests, 15 days ahead below. Ask the venue who handles it. Our guide to [planning a private party in Marrakech](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/private-party-planner-marrakech) also compares restaurants with riads, villas and Agafay, where amplified music does not stop at the same time.

## What Saphyyr Events does

Saphyyr Events is a French-Moroccan agency with an office in Paris and an office in Marrakech. For a birthday dinner, we shortlist the venues actually available on your date, with their capacity, their time constraints and what each costs once privately booked, so you choose from a proposal. We then book the cake, flowers and music, and run the evening on site. You plan everything from home, in English or French, with a single contact; many of our clients see the venue for the first time the day before their party.

## Frequently asked questions

### Which rooftop can take a large group?

Of the venues we checked, Nobu is the only one to publish a rooftop capacity: up to 200 guests. Kabana and Le Salama offer rooftop hire without giving a capacity, so ask with your guest numbers.

### Can you book a rooftop for just 15 people?

Exclusive hire rarely makes sense for a small group. Kabana also offers part of its rooftop, and El Fenn takes groups of 10 or more with two weeks’ notice and last entry at 8pm. These options suit a smaller party better.

### How far ahead should you book?

Six to eight weeks is enough for a celebration dinner with no accommodation to arrange. In high season, from March to May and September to November, or for exclusive hire, start earlier.

### Can the restaurant provide the cake?

Often, but not always. Ask whether it has its own pastry chef or accepts an outside cake, and on what terms. A bespoke cake costs €25 to €60.

We find the venue available on your date, negotiate the terms in writing and coordinate the evening on site: see our [birthday party planning in Marrakech](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/birthday-party-in-marrakech), or ask for a [free quote](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/free-quote) with your date, your number of guests and the kind of venue you have in mind.
