For a private New Year’s Eve in Marrakech with friends or family, three formats share the night of 31 December: an exclusive-use villa, a private camp in the Agafay desert, and a gala dinner in a riad or restaurant reserved for your group. Excluding villa hire, allow roughly €2,000 to €4,200 for 20 guests in a villa, covering dinner, DJ, flowers and shuttles; in a private camp at Agafay, roughly €6,900 to €12,400 for 20 and €8,300 to €14,600 for 40, based on ordinary-date ranges. Two constraints dominate: the cold at night (an average December low of 7.3°C, colder in the desert) and the time the music must stop, which is not automatically extended on the 31st. From mid-October you have about eleven weeks: here is how to choose and in what order to book.

## Villa, desert or gala dinner: which NYE for which group?

Each format suits a different idea of the night. The table compares what really matters on 31 December: numbers, cold, music after midnight, and getting home.

|  | Exclusive-use villa | Agafay desert camp | Exclusive riad or restaurant |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Best for | Large groups (often 50 to 150 guests) who want to dance late | Groups who want the setting; capacity depends on the camp | Seated dinners of 20 to 50, more dinner than party |
| Cold | Indoor space available, braziers outside | Most exposed: tents, braziers and blankets essential | Covered courtyard or room: the simplest |
| Music after midnight | Possible if the villa is isolated and the contract allows it | No neighbours, but check the camp’s power supply | In the medina the cut-off comes early: midnight itself is often the last big moment |
| Getting home | Shuttles, or guests stay on site | Shuttles essential, less than an hour’s drive | On foot or by taxi if guests are staying in town |
| Budget excluding venue, 20 guests | about €2,000 to €4,200 | about €6,900 to €12,400, venue included | about €1,400 to €2,900, plus exclusive use |

For families with older guests or children, a riad or hotel is the most comfortable: everyone is sheltered and warm. For friends who want a proper party into the small hours, an isolated villa is the format where it is easiest to negotiate. The desert offers the strongest setting but the heaviest logistics.

## December cold: what to plan for

Climate normals for Marrakech-Menara (1991-2020) show an average December high of 20.1°C but an average low of 7.3°C, and 5.9°C in January. The sun sets around 5.30pm: by midnight it is cold, and noticeably colder in the Agafay desert than in town. An outdoor New Year’s Eve is a winter party:

- braziers or patio heaters, enough for every area where guests linger;

- a blanket on each chair, and a cloakroom for coats;

- a covered space for dinner: closed tent, covered courtyard or indoor room;

- a hot drink at midnight if the countdown happens outside.

Warn guests on the invitation: “dress up, but bring something warm”. It is the detail that most changes the mood of a December night.

## Midnight, music and fireworks

New Year does not suspend the venue’s rules. In most riads and villas, the music stops between midnight and 1am. If you want to dance after the countdown, have the exact end time written into the contract for the night of the 31st specifically. An isolated villa or desert camp are the settings where an all-night party is easiest to negotiate.

Fireworks are another matter. In Morocco, entertainment fireworks are regulated by Law No. 22-16 on explosives for civil use, published in 2018. Do not bring or set off anything yourselves: if fireworks matter to you, they must be handled by a qualified professional, with the venue’s written agreement and the necessary permits. Get that confirmed in writing before mentioning it to guests. Simpler alternatives: a light show, or musicians making an entrance at midnight.

Finally, an authorisation request goes to the prefecture: 30 days ahead above 100 guests, 15 days ahead below. For a 120-guest New Year’s Eve, that puts the deadline around 1 December.

## How much does a private NYE cost for 20 or 40 guests?

The figures come from two sources on our site and nothing else: our [birthday and private party](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/birthday-party-in-marrakech) page (celebration dinner €60 to €120 per head, flowers €50 to €200, solo Gnaoua musician €150 to €300) and our [group budget calculator](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/seminar-team-building-budget-calculator-marrakech) (DJ €500 to €1,200, shuttles €10 to €18 per head, Agafay evening: dinner €60 to €95 per head, camp hire €5,000 to €9,000, shuttles €10 to €15 per head). These are ordinary-date ranges: for 31 December, ask the venue and suppliers for their rate, which may differ.

| Format | 20 guests | 40 guests |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Villa: dinner, DJ, flowers, shuttles (excluding hire) | about €2,000 to €4,200 | about €3,400 to €6,900 |
| Agafay: dinner, camp hire, shuttles, DJ | about €6,900 to €12,400 | about €8,300 to €14,600 |
| Riad: dinner, Gnaoua musician, flowers (excluding exclusive use) | about €1,400 to €2,900 | about €2,600 to €5,300 |

The working. Villa for 20: 1,200 + 500 + 50 + 200 = €1,950 and 2,400 + 1,200 + 200 + 360 = €4,160; for 40: 2,400 + 500 + 50 + 400 = €3,350 and 4,800 + 1,200 + 200 + 720 = €6,920. Agafay for 20: 1,200 + 5,000 + 200 + 500 = €6,900 and 1,900 + 9,000 + 300 + 1,200 = €12,400; for 40: 2,400 + 5,000 + 400 + 500 = €8,300 and 3,800 + 9,000 + 600 + 1,200 = €14,600. Riad for 20: 1,200 + 150 + 50 = €1,400 and 2,400 + 300 + 200 = €2,900; for 40: 2,400 + 150 + 50 = €2,600 and 4,800 + 300 + 200 = €5,300.

How to read it: at Agafay, camp hire is a fixed cost. Per guest it represents €250 to €450 for 20 (5,000 ÷ 20; 9,000 ÷ 20) but €125 to €225 for 40, so the total comes to about €345 to €620 per guest for 20 (6,900 ÷ 20; 12,400 ÷ 20) and €210 to €365 for 40 (8,300 ÷ 40; 14,600 ÷ 40). In a riad, add exclusive use at €2,000 to €15,000 a day depending on the riad and season (the benchmark used on our site), unless you book a restaurant or a riad dining room without taking the whole property. None of these figures includes drinks, the midnight champagne, or flights, which you book yourselves or through your travel agent.

## The timeline, from mid-October

The night of 31 December comes once a year: an exclusive venue or a DJ can only give it to one client. Here is the order that avoids nasty surprises.

- Now: fix guest numbers and format, then book the venue. Until the venue is signed, nothing else holds.

- By mid-November: book the caterer, DJ or musicians and shuttles. Send the invitation with local time and dress code.

- By 1 December: submit the authorisation request to the prefecture if you are over 100 guests.

- Mid-December: final list, seating plan, shuttle times, room allocation if the group stays on site.

- On the 31st: set-up in the afternoon, heating tested before guests arrive, countdown timed to the minute.

Our [birthday countdown](https://saphyyrevents.fr/retroplanning-anniversaire-marrakech-de-j-90-au-jour-j) (in French) details these steps for a private party, and applies to New Year’s Eve almost unchanged.

## 1 January, and the rest of the weekend

1 January is a public holiday in Morocco, as is 14 January, the Amazigh New Year. Expect some services to run at a slower pace and plan departures accordingly. The format that works best: arrive on the 30th or at midday on the 31st, party that night, late brunch by the pool on the 1st, hammam and massage on the 2nd for those staying on (€30 to €60 per person on our birthday page). Morocco has been on GMT all year round since 20 September 2026, so for UK guests midnight in Marrakech is midnight in London; for family in France or most of Western Europe, it is already 1am, so schedule that video call for 11pm local time.

## What Saphyyr Events does

We shortlist venues actually available on 31 December, with their capacities, time limits and cost once booked exclusively. We select and contract the caterer, decoration, DJ or musicians, heating and security, and arrange shuttles and guest welcome. Everything is prepared remotely, in English or French, and our team is on site on the night, from set-up until the last guest leaves. For a company party, see our [company Christmas party in Marrakech](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/company-christmas-party-marrakech).

## Frequently asked questions

### Is October too late to plan New Year’s Eve in Marrakech?

No, but do not wait. With eleven weeks you can still book a venue and suppliers; the choice shrinks every week. Give us your guest numbers and we will tell you what is still free.

### Is a desert NYE sensible in December?

Yes, if the camp is equipped for winter: closed tents, braziers, blankets, and a return time fixed in advance. Our guide to [dinner in the desert](https://saphyyrevents.fr/organiser-un-diner-dans-le-desert-au-maroc-guide-pratique-budget) (in French) covers the logistics.

### Can we party past 1am on 31 December?

Only if the venue agrees in writing. The 31st is not an automatic exception: the venue’s rule applies. An isolated villa or desert camp are where it is most often possible.

### Can we combine New Year’s Eve with a birthday?

Yes, it works well for a late-December birthday. Bring the cake out before midnight so it is not lost after the countdown. The rest is planned like any private party: see our guide to a [private party in Marrakech](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/private-party-planner-marrakech).

We find a venue free on the 31st, book the suppliers and coordinate the night on the ground: see our [private party planning in Marrakech](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/birthday-party-in-marrakech), or ask for a [free quote](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/free-quote) with your guest numbers.
