A group weekend in Marrakech with friends or other couples, six to twenty of you, with no birthday or wedding to build it around, works best when it is planned like a small event: one house for everyone, a programme with plenty of free time, one or two private dinners and activities people opt into. Using the prices in our budget calculator, four days and three nights in a riad for three couples, with three dinners, a cooking class, a quad ride and airport transfers, comes to €2,845 to €4,759 for the group, or €474 to €793 per person excluding flights. We plan these trips end to end from our offices in Paris and Marrakech: send us your dates and group size for a [free quote](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/free-quote) and we reply within 48 working hours.

This guide is for old friends and couples travelling simply to spend time together. If the trip is built around a birthday party, see our guide to a [birthday weekend in a private riad](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/birthday-weekend-private-riad-marrakech); for a stag do, our [stag do itinerary and cost](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/stag-do-marrakech-itinerary-cost).

## Why plan it rather than everyone booking their own?

With six couples, improvising gets expensive in time: twelve diaries, flights landing at different hours, and some people who want to do things while others want the pool. Three things make the difference: a house that sleeps everyone in comparable rooms, a written plan with two or three shared moments and the rest left free, and one contact on the ground who handles arrivals, bookings and anything that goes wrong.

## Riad or villa?

A private riad puts the group inside the medina: bedrooms around a courtyard, a roof terrace for the evenings, everything on foot. It suits six to fifteen people who want to live in the city. The trade-offs: no car at the door, stairs between floors and close neighbours, so music stays at a sensible volume.

A villa outside the medina gives you a garden, a pool and space. It suits groups of fifteen to twenty, and anyone who wants long dinners without disturbing anyone. Every outing then needs a vehicle, which we include in the budget.

### For couples: make sure the rooms are equal

Between couples, the touchy subject is who gets which room: a suite with a terrace and a windowless room at the same price is a bad start. We ask the owner for a room-by-room plan: bed type, private or shared bathroom, floor, view. If the rooms are not equal, either draw lots, agreed in advance, or set different contributions per room. For friends who are not couples, check the number of actual beds, not bedrooms.

## A sample Friday-to-Sunday programme

Flights from London to Marrakech take under four hours. Morocco has stayed on GMT all year since 20 September 2026, so it is the same time as London in winter and one hour behind in summer.

- Friday, arrivals: everyone is met at the airport whenever they land and driven to the house. A relaxed dinner in the evening, at home or in town.

- Saturday, one activity and the private dinner: in the morning, an activity for those who want it (quad biking in the Agafay desert, a cooking class, a hammam) while the others stay by the pool. The afternoon is free. The evening is the private dinner, the main shared moment of the trip.

- Sunday, brunch and departures: a late brunch, then transfers timed to each flight. Ask in advance what time the rooms must be vacated.

Adding a Thursday or a Monday gives the trip room to breathe: a second activity, or a day with nothing planned. Three nights instead of two means one more night and one more dinner, not double the budget.

## Private dinners: at home, in a private riad or in the desert

- Dinner at the house: a cook or caterer prepares the meal where the group is staying. No transport and no venue to hire, which makes it the simplest option for six or eight.

- A riad or palace hired for the evening: our calculator uses €65 to €100 per person for the dinner and €2,000 to €6,000 to hire the venue. The venue cost weighs heavily on a small group.

- An evening in the Agafay desert: €60 to €95 per person for dinner, €5,000 to €9,000 to take over a camp, and €10 to €15 per person for transport. Best for groups of fifteen to twenty.

For six people, hiring a riad for a single dinner takes the trip from €474–€793 to €885–€1,954 per person. Dinner at the house gives the same privacy for far less.

## Activities: offered, never imposed

Everyone should be able to say no: we offer one activity per half-day and charge only those who sign up. Prices per person, from our calculator:

| Activity | Per person | Worth knowing |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Quad biking, Agafay desert (2 hrs) | €65–€90 | Helmet always; check your insurance covers it |
| Moroccan cooking class | €45–€70 | Share dietary needs in advance |
| Craft workshop | €25–€45 | Relaxed, suits everyone |
| Hot-air balloon at sunrise | €170–€200 | Very early start; licensed operator only |
| Hammam and massage | on quote | Ask how many treatment rooms there are |

## How much does a group weekend cost?

Calculated with the prices in our [budget calculator](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/seminar-team-building-budget-calculator-marrakech), including a 10% contingency, excluding flights and drinks.

| Group and format | Included | Group total | Per person |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 3 couples, 4 days / 3 nights | Riad, 3 dinners, cooking class, quad, transfers, local transport | €2,845–€4,759 | €474–€793 |
| 6 couples, 3 days / 2 nights | Riad, 1 dinner, dinner in a hired riad, quad, transfers | €6,173–€13,028 | €514–€1,086 |
| 20 friends, 4 days / 3 nights | Riad or villa (calculator riad rate), 2 dinners, Agafay evening with live musicians, cooking class, transfers, local transport | €15,642–€27,412 | €782–€1,371 |

Accommodation is the largest line: the calculator uses €70 to €120 per person per night in a riad, based on single rooms. Couples sharing a room usually pay less; the difference depends on the house and is priced in the quote. A balloon flight adds €170 to €200 per participant and is the option that most changes one person’s total from another’s.

## Splitting the costs between friends or couples

Agree the split in writing before anything is booked, using a simple rule: shared costs are divided, individual costs are paid by whoever uses them.

- Shared: the house, group dinners, a hired venue, music and transport, divided per person or per couple. In the six-couple example, hiring the riad for the evening (€2,000 to €6,000) comes to €333 to €1,000 per couple before contingency.

- Individual: activities, charged only to those taking part, and personal extras.

- Unequal rooms: draw lots, or agree a different contribution in advance.

Per couple, count twice the per-person figure, €948 to €1,586 for each of the three couples in the first example, based on single rooms; sharing a room lowers the accommodation line, which we quote case by case. Have one person pay the deposit and collect everyone’s share. Our quote itemises every line and separates the optional activities, so everyone can see what they are paying for.

## What a planner adds

A shortlist of houses actually free on your dates, with capacity, room plans and house rules confirmed in writing; suppliers (cook or caterer, musicians, activities, transport) chosen and contracted for you; arrival logistics and transfers; and one person on the ground throughout the stay, in English or French. To stay in touch with each other, an eSIM for Morocco avoids roaming charges.

## Local rules to know before you go

- Entry: UK visitors can stay up to 90 days for tourism without a visa; the UK government advises that your passport should be valid for at least three months after arrival.

- Alcohol: Moroccan regulations bar venues from selling or serving alcohol to Moroccan Muslims; they do not stop foreign visitors from drinking. Alcohol is served in licensed venues, and the UK government warns that drinking in the street is illegal and can lead to arrest. During Ramadan, France’s foreign ministry notes, alcohol cannot be bought, let alone drunk in public. We check each venue’s licence before proposing it.

- Dress and behaviour: dress modestly in town and avoid public displays of affection, including between couples.

- Drones: bringing one into Morocco is prohibited without prior authorisation, granted only for specific professional needs, and flying one without permission risks fines and confiscation. Leave yours at home.

- Quads and balloons: wear a helmet, book balloon flights only with licensed operators, and check that your travel insurance covers these activities.

## When to go

High season runs from March to May and from September to November, when the best houses go first for weekends. Allow three to six months for a trip with a private house, more for twenty people. Winter evenings are cool, so ask about heated rooms and a heated pool. Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February, give or take a day; restaurant hours and alcohol service change for a month: we check what each venue still offers.

## Frequently asked questions

### How much per person for a weekend with friends in Marrakech?

Using our calculator, €474 to €793 per person for three couples over four days in a riad, with three dinners, two activities and transfers, excluding flights, based on one single room per person (a shared room costs less). A hired venue or a balloon flight pushes it up.

### Riad or villa for three couples?

A riad if you want to explore the medina on foot, a villa if you want a pool and late evenings without neighbours. Either way, check that the rooms are comparable.

### How should couples split the costs?

Divide shared costs per couple, charge activities only to those who take part, and settle unequal rooms before booking. An itemised quote makes it straightforward.

### How far ahead should we book?

Three to six months for a trip with a private house, longer in high season and for groups above fifteen. Spring and autumn weekends fill first.
