An escape room for a corporate team in Marrakech can take three forms: an escape room venue in town, where a small team is shut in for an hour to crack a scenario; a mobile puzzle game, set up in the meeting room of your hotel, riad or estate, which lets the whole group play at once; and a full-scale investigation, where several teams work through the same case across an entire venue. For any group above about twenty people, the mobile game is almost always the simplest option: you add more game kits rather than more sessions. The game itself is priced on request; the rest of the day can be costed: for 60 people, a day delegate package with meeting room, breaks, lunch and audiovisual equipment comes to roughly €4,000 to €6,300. Here is how to choose the format, split the group and prepare the room.

## Escape room venue, mobile game or investigation: what is the difference?

All three formats rely on the same mechanism: a team, a time limit and puzzles that can only be solved together. Where they differ is where people play and how many they can take at once.

| Format | How the group plays | Group size |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Escape room venue in town | One small team per room, about an hour, one game master per room | Up to about twenty people, depending on the number of rooms |
| Mobile puzzle game | One case or chest per team, all teams at the same time, in your own room | From 15 to over 100 people |
| Full-scale investigation | One shared storyline, clues hidden around the venue, teams competing | From 30 to over 100 people |

A venue in town offers the most immersive set, but it imposes its own opening hours, address and capacity. Marrakech has few physical escape room venues and the offer changes from year to year: the address, scenarios and capacity are checked when the quote is prepared. The mobile game loses a little of the set and gains everything else: it comes to you, everyone plays at the same moment, and it fits between two working sessions with no travel. The full-scale investigation is closer to a murder mystery: it needs actors or hosts and a venue large enough to hide clues in, such as a villa, a whole riad or a hotel’s gardens.

## How many players per team, and how do you get 60 people playing?

Whatever the format, four to six players per team works best. Fewer, and the team runs short of ideas; more, and some people end up watching the others play. Some venues state a slightly larger capacity, up to six or seven players: check it for each scenario.

The maths for 60 people is quick: with teams of five, you need twelve teams. At a venue offering three scenarios that could run in parallel, that means four back-to-back sessions of about an hour and a quarter including the briefing, so five hours to get everyone through, with three quarters of the group waiting at any one time. That is not team building; it is a queue.

With a mobile game, the twelve teams play at the same time, on twelve identical kits, in the same room: one hour of play for the whole group, and a leaderboard at the end. That is why, above twenty or so participants, this format wins. For a very large group, the provider can also run two different scenarios in two rooms and bring everyone together for the results.

Set the teams in advance, mixing departments and levels of seniority, and do not put managers with their own team: the game quickly shows who takes the lead, and that is more revealing among people who do not work together every day.

## How long does it take?

Allow half a day at most, and often less. Here is a typical schedule for a mobile game with 60 people, in the afternoon, in your hotel’s plenary room.

- 12.30pm: lunch; meanwhile, the game master sets out the tables and kits in the room.

- 2.00pm: everyone joins their team, already posted at the door.

- 2.10pm: briefing on the storyline, the rules, how clues work and the finishing time.

- 2.20 to 3.20pm: sixty minutes of play, with a clue available on request.

- 3.20pm: walk-through of the solution and the rankings.

- 3.35 to 4.05pm: debrief on who took which role and how each team shared information.

- 4.05pm: a break, then back to the working session or free time.

The debrief is what separates team building from simple entertainment. Half an hour is enough, as long as you have prepared two or three questions that link back to the team’s day-to-day work.

## Which language should an international team play in?

This is the question people forget, and it can ruin the game. A puzzle built on wordplay cannot be translated: an English speaker in a French-speaking team will end up as a spectator. Three rules avoid the trap.

First, ask the provider whether the scenario exists in both English and French, with printed materials in each language, not just a translated briefing. Next, form teams by playing language, letting each participant choose, rather than putting people who do not read the same language in the same team. Finally, favour visual, logical or numerical puzzles, which work in any language. The game master should be able to give clues in both languages.

## What room do you need for a mobile game?

A standard meeting room will do, but set up differently from the plenary. Each team needs a table to spread out its documents, and the tables must be far enough apart that one team cannot overhear the next. For twelve teams, the plenary room for a 60-person group is usually enough once the rows of chairs are cleared.

Check four things with the venue: how long the provider needs to set up, and when the room is free for that; the air conditioning, since sixty people thinking hard warm a room up quickly; the lighting, because there is a lot of small print to read; and an accessible power socket if the game uses tablets or electronic padlocks. In a riad, the game can be spread between the courtyard and the salons, provided each space is large enough for one or two teams. Our article on [choosing a hotel or private estate for team building](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/hotel-estate-team-building-marrakech) helps you check the fallback room and the spaces available.

## Escape room or medina treasure hunt?

Both are built on puzzles, but they make for very different days. The treasure hunt is played outdoors, on foot, in the alleys of the medina: it shows people the city, involves several hours of walking and depends on the weather. The escape room is played sitting down, indoors, in an hour, in an enclosed room: it works in any season, in the March rain as in the July heat, and tires nobody out.

They complement each other well. A treasure hunt in the cool of the morning and an escape room in the afternoon, when it is too hot to walk, make for a balanced day. If you are torn between the two, our article on [the medina treasure hunt for corporate teams](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/medina-treasure-hunt-marrakech-teams) covers team sizes and time slots by season.

## Can everyone take part?

Almost everyone, which makes it one of the most accessible formats: it involves no physical effort and is played sitting down. Two precautions, though. An escape room venue is an enclosed space, sometimes upstairs or in a basement: a claustrophobic participant or a wheelchair user may feel uncomfortable there or be unable to get in, whereas a mobile game in your own room avoids both problems. And some people simply do not enjoy puzzles: give each team different roles, such as timekeeper, clue manager or spokesperson, so that everyone has a part to play.

If you are also planning something more physical during the same trip, our article on [corporate olympics and sports team building in Marrakech](https://saphyyrevents.fr/en/corporate-olympics-team-building-marrakech) shows how to build events that anyone can win.

## How much does an escape room cost for a team?

The game itself has no line in our pricing model: it is quoted on request, depending on the format and the number of kits and hosts. The rest of the day is costed with the same model as our online calculator. The table below covers the most common case, a mobile game slotted into a seminar day at the hotel: meeting room, breaks, lunch and audiovisual equipment, with or without dinner in a privately hired riad, including 10% contingency and rounded to the nearest hundred.

| Participants | Day delegate package and AV | With dinner in a private riad |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 30 | €2,000 to €3,100 (€70 to €110 per person) | €6,300 to €13,000 (€210 to €440 per person) |
| 60 | €4,000 to €6,300 (€70 to €110 per person) | €10,500 to €19,500 (€170 to €330 per person) |

The riad evening outweighs the whole working day because hiring the venue is a fixed cost: it is spread more thinly as the group grows, hence a lower price per person for 60 than for 30. These figures exclude the game, flights, accommodation, alcohol, tourist tax and organisation fees. ## Mistakes to avoid

A game that is too hard, first of all: if no team finishes, the group leaves frustrated. Ask the provider what share of teams usually complete the scenario, and pick a level most can manage. A single game master for too many teams, next: beyond about ten teams, you need a second host to handle clue requests. The time slot, too: straight after a heavy lunch, energy dips. And phones: set the rule at the briefing, or some participants will answer emails instead of playing.

## What Saphyyr Events does

We start from what you want the moment to achieve, whether that is welcoming new starters, getting departments that rarely meet to work together, or simply giving people a break between two sessions, and choose the format accordingly. We select the provider, coordinate the room, set-up and time slot with the venue, and run the schedule on the day, with a team on site throughout and instructions in French and English. You plan the project with our Paris office; our Marrakech team handles everything on the ground.

## Frequently asked questions

### How many people can play a corporate escape game?

With a mobile game, over 100 people at the same time if the provider has enough kits, in teams of four to six. A venue in town only takes a few teams at once, which limits it to groups of about twenty.

### How long does an escape room team building session last?

About an hour of play. With the briefing, the solution and the debrief, allow two hours.

### Can a mixed group play in English and French?

Yes, if the scenario exists in both languages and each team plays in just one. Avoid puzzles that rely on wordplay.

### How is it different from a medina treasure hunt?

The treasure hunt is played outdoors, on foot, over several hours. The escape room is played indoors, sitting down, in an hour, in any season.

### How much does an escape room cost for 60 people?

The game is quoted on request. Slotted into a seminar day, the rest comes to around €4,000 to €6,300 for the meeting room, breaks, lunch and AV.
